Talko Youth Participation
It is becoming increasingly clear that more and more people want to live in rural areas, and Leader Höga Kusten is therefore implementing a project to strengthen opportunities and increase attractiveness for living, working, and thriving in Höga Kusten.
About the project
In Finland, there are currently over 105,000 registered associations, and in Sweden, the number is approximately double that. The project TALKO is a 2.5-year transnational Leader collaboration aimed at helping associations in Finland and Sweden update their operational forms to fit today's society.
The name comes from Finland-Swedish, where ’Talko’ means voluntary, unpaid teamwork. The project is a collaboration between the Centria University of Applied Sciences & Novia University of Applied Sciences, Leader Höga Kusten, Leader Polaris, and Leader Lappland 2020. Each partner is running projects for association development with different focus areas.
Leader Höga Kusten poses the question ”How do we create diversity in the non-profit sector?” within the framework of the project and focuses the work on youth engagement.
The project has four sub-areas;
- Attitude change – how to create a positive image of the countryside where young people can thrive and develop
- Improved conditions for young people to engage
- Increased knowledge within the association sector on how to support youth participation and engagement
- More young people engaging in rural development in Höga Kusten
