About the project
The Broadband Bullerby project aims to build modern and attractive housing for people who want to live sustainably in the countryside, thereby increasing the influx to the municipality of creative and well-educated individuals. To attract people from the increasingly populated cities, the project owner, Sollefteå municipality's housing company Solatum Hus & Hem AB, will develop a concrete detailed plan for new residential buildings in a village formation. At the same time, an interest group will drive the recruitment process to find people who want to live and thrive in the Broadband Bullerby villages.
The population of working age in Sollefteå municipality is expected to decrease significantly within a 5-year period. This reduces the tax base in the municipality and challenges the ability to maintain a good range of services for the residents. At the same time, according to a web survey, there is a large number of people in Stockholm (around 50,000) who dream of living in the countryside with clean air and proximity to water and forest. A large portion of these individuals are also interested in working with sustainable agriculture and food production. Broadband villages simplify and enable interested professionals and innovative individuals to choose to move to the countryside in Sollefteå municipality.
The activities within the project have two focuses. Solatum leads the process regarding land agreements, exploring conditions for development and construction planning. An interest group driven by voluntary forces manages the recruitment process, creates informational materials, and organizes courses and meetings. In this way, the residents are prepared for moving in. The interest group will also participate in establishing the new businesses and associations that are needed. Partners in the project include Nipakademin, Rafnaslakt AB, Solatum AB, and the County Council's Hola Folk High School.
The long-term goal is for the concept to be replicable in other rural areas, creating further influx and serving as an example for counter-urbanization throughout the country.
