Rural and urban in balance

Örnsköldsvik municipality has a strong belief and desire to develop the countryside in various ways. Through the project Rural and Urban in balance, collaboration will take place with the Rural Council, the Employment Agency, and business associations.

About the project

Örnsköldsvik municipality has a strong commitment to creating a vibrant countryside filled with opportunities. In the project Rural and Urban in balance, the goal is to continue the work and build on the strategies that have been developed to strengthen the countryside.

The project targets the general public, and some of the goals are to create, among other things, new jobs, new social enterprises, internships, new networks, and innovative collaborations. As part of this, the municipality will focus on previously developed ”local workplaces,” which are now being developed into meeting places called ”Growth Places.” Here, an inclusive environment will be created, and a close collaboration with businesses and organizations will be initiated. Through the Growth Places, it is hoped to contribute to social innovations, new businesses, and collaborations. Through dialogue about collaboration with businesses, partners and internship opportunities will be sought.

A fundamental prerequisite for the project is the equal value of all people. To contribute to this and create a more inclusive society, workshops and dialogues will be held for entrepreneurs and residents. Everyone is welcome to participate and think anew about the issues of an open society and the value of people.

Furthermore, the project will aim to increase the attractiveness of the countryside and to increase the value of properties. The project will, for example, organize local walks in twelve locations during 2016 – 2018. During the local walks, property owners, shopkeepers, entrepreneurs, and residents will be invited to review what assets the locality has and what needs to be improved. The walk will result in an action plan. On the same theme, themed evenings and market days will be organized to create lasting activities and a vibrant countryside. Part of the project focuses on the important association life for the countryside. Therefore, the project will gather various associations during different themed evenings to facilitate the exchange of experiences, collaborations, etc.
