Nordvik – Sustainable development center for rural areas in the High Coast

Nordvik – Sustainable Development Center for the countryside” is a project whose idea is based on Nordvik becoming a driving force for rural development and entrepreneurship. The long-term goal is for Nordvik to become a creative and innovative rural engine with a clear development role and sustainability profile in the region.

The project aims to explore how Nordvik and the Agricultural Society's resources in competence, land, and properties can be utilized and operated by other actors. The project also wants to see how the area can become a ”community within a community” where, in addition to education, there will be, for example, entrepreneurs, preschools, elderly care, and a high degree of self-sufficiency and sustainability regarding both food and energy consumption.

New energy solutions

The project will focus on new energy solutions for, for example, agricultural properties and reduced carbon dioxide emissions, as well as a testing ground and development for companies primarily in green industries and tourism. In this way, Nordvik can develop into an innovative community within the community where, for instance, local restaurateurs can grow their own crops, where environmental values can lay the foundation for elderly care and preschool, and where energy companies can develop a testing ground for new, smart energy solutions. Turbo effect thanks to project support from Leader Höga Kusten

Nordvik is involved in driving two different Leader projects ”Nordvik – Sustainable Development Center for the countryside” and ”Living Working Acting in Norabygden.” Both projects are based on collaboration with associations and organizations in the local area, which has brought everyone in the entire community closer together. From the very first meeting, they realized that everyone had quite similar visions and ideas on how to develop the place.

In a leader project, one works according to the leader method. In short, this means that all work done is based on collaboration with others, local conditions, and local initiatives. An important part of the leader method is the so-called tripartite partnership. This means that the voluntary, private, and public sectors collaborate to create development. In Nordvik's case, they collaborate with associations and businesses in Nora, such as the Nora Heritage Society and Noramacken.

In the partnership, the foundation for collaboration is laid, and for Nordvik, it has created a natural way to meet, where completely different ideas and thoughts also have a place. The two leader projects also become a springboard for a number of other collaborations.
