The Saga Trail
Örnsköldsvik Municipality is working together with actors from three Norwegian and two other Swedish municipalities to create a trail for snowmobiles and dog sledding that stretches from the Atlantic coast in Norway to the Gulf of Bothnia in Sweden.

Örnsköldsvik Municipality worked together with actors from three Norwegian and two other Swedish municipalities to create a trail for snowmobiles and dog sledding that stretches from the Atlantic coast in Norway to the Gulf of Bothnia in Sweden. In the project, the municipalities collaborated with companies and associations to investigate the possibility of realizing the Sagaleden – from coast to coast.
The project, which was a pre-study, aimed to investigate the conditions for what measures need to be implemented for the Sagaleden to become the game changer it has the potential to be. The goal of the pre-study was to produce a well-prepared and anchored investigation of what is needed to go from possibility to reality.
In the long term, the Sagaleden is to become a talked-about and well-known reason to visit. The Sagaleden will cross Scandinavia from Mosjön via Grane, Hattfjelldal, Vilhelmina, and Åsele to Örnsköldsvik – sea to sea, world heritage to world heritage, over the mountain range of the Scandes, through legends and history. The trail, through one of Europe's last wilderness areas, will be about 550 km long and match today's and the future's increasing demand for activity and adventure holidays. An increased influx of visitors provides opportunities for businesses, residents, and associations in the areas around the trail. The Sagaleden also has the potential to extend and strengthen the current tourist season and give Höga Kusten a stronger winter brand.
