Summer vacation entrepreneurs are a proven concept where young people can develop their entrepreneurial skills during the summer. In the project, the initiator Technicus wants to develop the concept to involve young people from the countryside and also make it possible to extend the activity to the whole year.
About the project
With the project, Technichus wants to make the opportunity for summer vacation entrepreneurs an attractive alternative to a summer job. The project targets young people living in rural areas outside the main urban center in all four municipalities in Höga Kusten. Through the project, it also becomes possible to develop business ideas in the countryside. Young people can operate where they live and find support from local forces without having to travel to work on the ideas they want to pursue and develop. In YOUNG Rural Entrepreneur, the program will be expanded beyond school youth to include young adults (20-25 years) living in rural areas who are fully or partially unemployed or for other reasons have the opportunity and desire to try to learn more about entrepreneurship. At the same time, Technichus will work on a model for local communities, municipalities, and organizations to continue the operations after the project has ended. To reach local associations, the project collaborates with LRF, Hela Sverige ska leva, and various local tourism organizations.
Technichus will work on a model for the work with YOUNG rural entrepreneur during 2017. In preparation for this, they have already established contact with partners and local representatives from various locations in the region, who will help with contacts to associations and local entrepreneurs as well as with partners. During the spring of 2017, rural mentors will be trained in the method for summer vacation entrepreneurs.
For the young people, the project begins with a start week together with the other summer vacation groups. After that, the young people will run their business in their own village. What is new for YOUNG rural entrepreneur is, among other things, that the young people will have their own local mentor who can support and brainstorm ideas with them, that local businesses will involve and provide tips on services and products that are in demand in their area, and that the project can be carried out at other times of the year for young people aged 20-25.
The goal of the project is for 120 rural youth aged 15-25 to be able to try entrepreneurship in practice. This will take place during the summer of 2016-2019 as well as at least one group at another time of the year. They also want to engage adults in the countryside as support for young people who in the future want to become part of the local entrepreneurs. In the long term, the aim is to develop a permanent operation for entrepreneurial development for young people in the countryside. This is to increase their knowledge about entrepreneurship, allow them to try their own ideas, increase understanding of the opportunities to run a business in the countryside, and change perceptions and inspire young people to run businesses in the countryside.
