Why are smart inclusive communities needed?

Many rural areas are bubbling with engagement and ideas – but not everyone gets the opportunity to participate and contribute. Young people, newcomers, and less established associations often encounter obstacles that reduce their participation. When more are given space to engage, it creates not only a more attractive and viable community – it also strengthens the sense of meaning, belonging, and public health among those who might otherwise risk being left out.

Smart inclusive communities therefore involves more than development and digitalization. It is about building communities where everyone feels welcome, heard, and involved – regardless of age, background, or experience. Only then can we harness the full power of the community and create sustainable development together.

What can an investigation be about?

• Mapping who is currently underrepresented in your development work and how they can be involved.
• Analyses of what is needed to create new meeting places and collaborations in the community.
• Developing ideas and plans for future projects that can contribute to making your community an inclusive and thriving community.

Why an investigation?

Conducting an investigation provides a stable foundation for future investments. By examining and analyzing local needs before a larger investment is made, we ensure that the right efforts are implemented and that they truly make a difference.

Who can apply?

Associations, businesses, and organizations in the municipalities of Härnösand, Kramfors, Sollefteå, and Örnsköldsvik can apply for the support..

What costs can you apply for support for?

The investigation can be conducted in various ways – and you can apply for support for costs such as:

• Salary costs or purchase of external services (e.g., process management, mapping)
• Rent for meetings or workshops
• Study trips for inspiration and learning
• Competence-enhancing efforts

• Identify a question or area where you see a need for increased inclusion.
• Anchor the idea locally and see which actors can be involved.
• Download the materials you need from our website to submit your application.

Selection and prioritization:

If many applications come in from the same municipality, the investigations that best meet the purpose and goals of the investment will be prioritized.
